Levent Peynirci
From the Optimist to the yacht class
Levent Peynirci was born on 9 September 1982. He started sailing in 1990 at Fenerbahçe Spor Kulübü, wore the national shirt for the first time at twelve and won his first Turkish title in the Optimist class at fourteen. Turkish titles in the Optimist, Laser 4.7, 470, Dragon, Platu 25, J/70 and Sportboat classes followed in later years.
He finished ninth at the 470 Youth World Championship held in Türkiye in 2001 and second at the 2004 World University Championship. After the 2005 Mediterranean Games he left the centreboard classes and moved to yachts; in 2009 he was second at Saint-Tropez race week in France and first the following year.
He is a graduate in interior architecture from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. After combining interior architecture with sailing for a while, he founded Cheese Sailing in 2012. According to the company he has been in the national team more than two hundred times.
