Faruk Aydin
He started as a student and carries on as an instructor
Faruk Aydın first met sailing in 2018, as a student. After leaving his corporate career he trained at sailing schools, then began teaching at those same schools.
Since 2025 he has been working independently under the Rakun Sailing banner. He gives sailing and yachting courses as well as race training, and delivers boats. He spends roughly 40 weeks of the year on different boats and different seas.
For him, teaching is not limited to scheduled lesson hours. When he is taking a boat to another harbour and there is room on board, he sometimes brings his students along on the delivery, and charges nothing for it. He points out that eight years ago he was the one trying to learn on those boats.
“The sea keeps teaching, and I take great pleasure in passing that knowledge on.”
